KMG Engineering attended the Green Hydrogen Production Project launch in Kazakhstan

On September 24, employees of the KMGE Hydrogen Energy Competence Center, acting head Saule Zholdayakova and Senior Engineer Bekbol Ismagulov, attended the official ceremony for the launch of Kazakhstan’s first pilot project for the production of Green Hydrogen, which was implemented by GreenSpark LLP, a company specializing in the electrical energy and oil and gas markets.

“Solar panels are used in the project to power the electrolysers, which then split the water into hydrogen and oxygen. Furthermore, the system includes water purification filters because the electrolysers require clean water before they can produce hydrogen. This is a one-of-a-kind first implementation in our country’s energy history, an important milestone and a signal to the market that our country’s resources can be used efficiently and produce clean energy,” said Saule Zholdayakova.

Karachaganak Petroleum Operating (KPO), KMG Engineering LLP, Sumitomo Cooperation, Consolidated Contractors International Company, Kazakhstan New Technologies LLP and Carbon-Zero were the distinguished guests of the event.  The program began with a brief tour of the GreenSpark facilities in Aksai, during which the invited guests were shown the mechanism of the local solar power plant system installed on the building’s roof.

As an outcome of the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between GreenSpark and the Hydrogen Energy Competence Center to exchange knowledge and conduct joint research for data analysis and gain practical experience in the electrolyser operation.

“We look forward to a successful outcome of the agreement with GreenSpark, which can contribute to the decarbonization of our economy and the implementation of more green energy projects in Kazakhstan,“ concluded the Acting Head of the Center.
